Mission and Identity offers immersion opportunities for Loyola faculty and staff each year. The Faculty/Staff Service Immersion program is designed to:
- Engage employees in solidarity, learning and exploration through direct service
- Build relationships within the Loyola community
- Encourage faculty and staff to effectively and creatively engage Loyola’s mission
- Assist communities who seek support in order to overcome obstacles and to achieve goals
What is the Faculty/Staff Service Immersion Program?
The Faculty/Staff Service Immersion program engages Loyola faculty and staff in service for people in need.
A typical immersion lasts 4-8 days off-campus. During this time, the volunteer team provides direct service, learns about the community being served, and engages in conversation about the personal impact of the experience.
The team also gathers before and after the trip for preparation and reflection. A team facilitator organizes all of these components.
Why should I take part in an immersion?
A Faculty/Staff Service Immersion is designed specifically for employees. If you want to serve others, learn about another place, and know more about your Loyola community members and yourself, then this experience may be for you!
How does Loyola support faculty and staff who want to take part in an immersion?
Through a Human Resources policy, Loyola faculty and staff are able to participate in the immersion program, upon supervisor approval, without using vacation or personal days. The trips are also supported financially by the University. Participants provide nominal financial support.
How do I become part of an immersion team?
Faculty and staff must complete an immersion application and obtain written supervisor approval for participation.
