Loyola's Ignatian Heritage Week celebration highlights the living legacy of St. Ignatius Loyola [1491-1556], founder of the Society of Jesus  [1540] and Patron of Loyola University Chicago. 

St. Ignatius was a man of deep desires and faith, a person whose life was dedicated to "helping souls."   Ignatius believed that it is imperative to act upon what is learned–to use our talent, gifts and values in service to humanity.

The Jesuit and Catholic heritage and identity of Loyola University Chicago, established at its founding in 1870, has evolved into a unique culture that has been renewed and refocused by generations of Loyolans.   The work that we do and the service we provide to members of our own university community and well beyond our campus borders finds its inspiration in Ignatian spirituality.  

We invite the entire Loyola community to explore and recognize the diverse gifts we have received from the living legacy of St. Ignatius Loyola and the traditions of the Jesuits in particular:

• Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam (for the greater glory of God ) and the magis, (the more, the greater)

• Contemplation in Action

• Cura Personalis (care for the person)

• Discernment

• A Faith that Does Justice

• Finding God in All Things

• Men and Women for Others
