Ignatian Heritage Celebration - 2009
Loyola's Ignatian Heritage Celebration highlights the living legacy of Ignatius Loyola [1491-1556] founder of the Society of Jesus [1540] and Patron of Loyola University Chicago. The Loyola mission statement serves as the general theme for this celebration of learning, justice and faith.
The Jesuit and Catholic heritage of Loyola University Chicago, established at its founding in 1870, has evolved into a unique culture, as well as a living tradition, that has been renewed and refocused by generations of Loyolans. This heritage is one that includes appreciation of the rich diversity of faith traditions that Loyola students, staff, faculty and administrators bring to Loyola. Loyola’s religious diversity is a vital part of its culture, and interfaith dialogue provides new ways to find God in all things, as the Jesuits have done throughout their history.
