Depth of Thought and Depth of Imagination: Challenging Superficiality

Reverend Michael A. Zampelli, S.J., Ph.D.
Santa Clara University

The Ignatius of Loyola Lecture considers a topic pertinent to Ignatian spirituality, an issue important to the Society of Jesus, or the work of a prominent, Jesuit scholar in an annual lecture that honors the spiritual charism and namesake of Loyola University Chicago.

Father Zampelli is an Associate Professor in the Department of Theatre and Dance and Rector of the Jesuit Community.

Father Zampelli will speak to a theme taken from Father General Adolfo  Nicolás’s Mexico City address of April, 2010, entitled, “Depth, Universality, and Ministry: Challenges to Jesuit Higher Education Today.”   Father Nicolás’s talk has received considerable attention as it charts a course for Jesuit higher education across the globe in these opening decades of the 21st century.   Nicolás begins with a reflection on what he calls “the globalization of superficiality” and the challenge it poses to our mission in Jesuit higher education.

Father Zampelli’s talk takes up this theme by offering his own thoughts on what it might mean to our work in Jesuit higher education in the United States today.

We hope you’ll consider joining us whether at the Lakeshore Campus or the Water Tower Campus, for Father Zampelli’s presentation.
