M/MLA Short-term Fellowship
2011 Fellowship Recipient
The 2011 M/MLA Short-term Fellowship is Jaillant Lise from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Bristish Columbia, Canada.
During her time at the Newberry Library, Ms. Lise will examine the ways in which the Modern Library series contributed to Sherwood Anderson's entrance into the literary canon while he was still alive. I believe that this research will participate in current debates on the role of publishers and uniform series in the canonmaking processes. Anderson scholars have mainly favored approaches inspired by psychoanalysis, New Criticism, and biographical readings. In contrast, this project will draw from print culture studies to shed light on Anderson's early canonization.
