Beginning Fall Semester 2007, requirements for the Music Major and the Music Minor have changed.  There are also Music Major Evaluations by the faculty and a Concert Attendance Requirement.

If you began your class work for the major/minor prior to Fall 2007, you are not affected by these changes and will continue under the former requirements.  The credit level for both the major (43 credits) and the minor (21 credits) remain the same.  The new requirements for the major are as follows:'

MUSC 144 & 145, Music Theory I and the new Musicianship Lab I, are to be taken simultaneously.

MUSC 244 & 245, Music Theory II and the new Musicianship Lab II, are to be taken simultaneously.

MUSC 344 Theory III

MUSC 345 Theory IV

MUSC 252 History I: The Development of Western Music (formally titled 9th-17th Century Music)

MUSC 353 History II: The Age of Western Music (formally titled 18th-19th Century Music)

MUSC 354 History III: The Globalization of Western Music (formally titled 20th Century Music)

In addition to the above courses, 8 credits of applied studies are required (choice of guitar, voice, piano, jazz piano, organ, violin, viola, cello, bass, flute) as well as 8 credits of ensemble participation (choice of orchestra, wind ensemble, chorus, guitar ensemble, jazz band, and chamber ensemble).

Your experience as a music major will be completed with either a Solo Recital (MUSC 387) or a Capstone Project (MUSC 388).
