MUSC 107: Women’s Chorus
Kirsten L. Hedegaard
Women’s Chorus provides singers who are new to the choral program an opportunity to review vocal technique, musicianship skills, and rehearsal technique at the collegiate level. The Chorus performs two times each semester and collaborates with the University Chorale and University Orchestra.
(Placement by audition only.)
MUSC 107: University Chorale
Primarily comprised of upperclassmen and music majors, the University Chorale performs challenging repertoire and pursues musical preparation at an advanced level. The Chorale performs several times each semester and often performs with the University Orchestra, as well as other student and professional musicians.
MUSC 207: Chamber Choir
Rev. Charles Jurgensmeier, SJ, conductor
The Chamber Choir is an auditioned ensemble of singers performing works written for the smaller vocal ensemble. Music from all periods of history and representing a wide variety of compositional styles are explored and performed. Sight-singing and ear training skills are important, though not required, for singing in the ensemble. The choir performs twice each semester in concerts at Loyola; the choir has collaborated with the other ensembles of the university. MUSC 207 is a one-credit course and can be taken for credit toward the fulfillment of the Artistic Knowledge and Experience part of the university’s Core Curriculum.
Auditions for the choir are held at the beginning of each semester and include sight reading as well as singing of the Star Spangled Banner.
MUSC 108: Liturgical Choir: Cantorum
Loyola’s liturgical choir, the Schola Cantorum, is a mixed-voice ensemble directed by organist and Director of Liturgical Music Steven Betancourt of Sacramental Life. This collection of 24 students performs challenging choral repertoire within the context of the Roman Catholic Mass. Catch the Schola Cantorum every week as part of Sunday Mass in Madonna della Strada Chapel.
