DNP Admission Criteria for Post-Masters students
Application Deadline (for Fall 2012) - May 1, 2012
- Admission is competitive, based on the strength of application materials and interview.
- A $50 non-refundable application fee (fee waived for online application).
- Official transcripts from all nursing programs, colleges, and universities attended.
- Graduate degree from an accredited graduate program.
- GPA of 3.25 or higher in the masters program. GRE is required if masters GPA is less than 3.25.
- Current nursing license from a U.S. state.
- Certification in your area of advanced practice specialization, where applicable.
- Minimum of 2,000 hours of clinical experience in your specialty area within the past four years.
- Current Curriculum Vita.
- Three professional references from nurses with a doctoral degree who can speak to your leadership, academic and professional successes, and potential to be successful in a DNP program. If possible, at least one reference should come from a nursing professor.
- A statement of purpose, following these required guidelines (one to two pages):
- Describe your personal vision of yourself as a leader in health care; discuss how the DNP program will help you to operationalize this role.
- Provide a statement describing how your work experiences and professional interests have prepared you to be successful in the DNP program to which you have applied.
- Completion of an admission interview. The interview may be conducted in person, by telephone or videoconferencing.
- The TOEFL test (minimum score of 213 on the computer-based test; 79 on the Internet-based test) is required for all international applicants except those who are from, or who have completed their degree in, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, or New Zealand.
Admission Criteria for post-BSN entry for PIPES DNP only
- A $50 non-refundable application fee (fee waived for online application).
- Official transcripts from all diploma nursing programs, colleges, and universities attended.
- Baccalaureate degree from an accredited nursing program.
- GPA of 3.0 or higher in the master’s nursing program.
- If GPA is less than 3.0:
- applicant must provide GRE score which meets the minimum requirement for nursing doctoral programs at Loyola
-OR-
- Enter the MSN program, be successful (B grade or higher) in key core courses (GNUR 401 Concepts; GNUR 450 Nursing Research, and CMAN 416 Epidemiology) and then petition to apply for DNP.
- applicant must provide GRE score which meets the minimum requirement for nursing doctoral programs at Loyola
- Current nursing license from a U.S. state.

- Three letters of recommendation from nurses with a masters degree or higher who can speak to your leadership, academic and professional successes, and potential to be successful in a DNP program. If possible, at least one reference should come from a nursing professor.
- A statement of purpose, following these required guidelines (one to two pages):
- Describe how your work experiences and professional interests have prepared you to be successful in the PIPES/post-BSN to DNP program.
- Discuss how completing Loyola's PIPES/post-BSN to DNP program will help you meet your professional goals.
