ASSOCIATE DEAN FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDIES

Applications are invited for an accomplished leader to lend expertise and support to our innovative traditional BSN and Accelerated BSN programs at the Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing, Loyola University Chicago.  The Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies is a tenure track position and will be available Fall 2008.  Qualifications include an earned doctorate, preferably in nursing, and eligibility for Illinois RN licensure.  Experience in leadership of academic undergraduate programs is preferred. Successful candidates will have demonstrated teaching excellence in a clinical area and a program of scholarship consistent with the University mission.  Additionally, we are seeking an academic leader who is passionate about undergraduate education in nursing, a skilled communicator, and a program development innovator who exhibits command of the undergraduate educational issues confronting the discipline. The ability to work with diverse groups of faculty and students is an expectation of the individual who will be selected for this role.

NIEHOFF ENDOWED CHAIR IN NURSING

Applications are invited for an accomplished leader and researcher in nursing to provide leadership, development, and strategic direction to our nationally ranked undergraduate and graduate programs and to provide mentorship to students and faculty in our PhD program at Loyola University Chicago. The Niehoff Endowed Chair is available September 2008. Qualifications include an earned doctorate, preferably in nursing, and eligibility for Illinois RN licensure. Experience in nursing leadership at the national level, a program of funded research, and an outstanding contribution to the education of graduate nursing students is preferred. Successful candidates will have demonstrated teaching and research excellence in an area of theoretical and practice expertise and a program of scholarship consistent with expectations of those involved in doctoral and post-doctoral nurse preparation. Additionally, we are seeking an academic leader with demonstrated mentoring abilities, a skilled communicator, and a research and program development innovator with a preferred emphasis in health disparities. The ability to work with diverse groups of faculty and students is an expectation of the individual selected for this endowed chair.

TENURE TRACK FACULTY

Tenure-track faculty appointments are available for the 2008-2009 academic year, rank dependent on qualifications and experience.  Senior faculty members or investigative teams are particularly encouraged to apply. Priority will be given to researchers with an established program of research and evidence of external funding.  The School offers a range of exciting multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary collaborative research opportunities on our Health Science campus as well as throughout the Chicago area.   Excellence in teaching is expected, as faculty have teaching responsibilities in the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs of the Loyola University Chicago Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing.

Loyola’s Niehoff School of Nursing was the first baccalaureate nursing program in Illinois, and now offers top-rated programs at all levels, including dietetics and health systems management.  We offer both traditional and accelerated BSN programs, nine Master’s concentrations including Clinical Nurse Specialty, Nurse Practitioner and Health Systems Management, and an established PhD program supported by externally funded investigators.  Our PhD program is highly regarded for preparation of the next generation of nurse leaders and scholars.

FAMILY NURSE PRACTITIONER FOR THE MSN PROGRAM

Full-time (9 month) non-tenured track faculty to teach in the graduate nursing program for MSN students. The faculty position is responsible for facilitating and guiding advanced practice nursing students in clinical practicum and didactic classes. This position works under the direction of the Dean and the Associate Dean for Faculty. The primary function of the position is to work in conjunction with other faculty in the Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing (MNSON) to teach evidence-based curriculum for advanced practice and evaluate students in the clinical practicum experience with preceptors. The position collaborates with other nursing faculty to implement curriculum specified by the AACN competencies for advanced practice and the MNSON program objectives.

Reports to: Dean and Associate Dean for Faculty

Minimum Qualifications
Certified Family Nurse Practitioner with a doctoral degree in Nursing and an active nursing license in the State of Illinois.  This position requires organizational skills, teaching experience, competent and current advanced practice skills, interest in technology and online teaching, and the ability to work with nursing students. Excellent intrapersonal skills are essential, including the ability to critique and discuss all aspects of the student’s performance.

  • Experience teaching MSN students.
  • Earned doctoral degree in nursing.
  • Advanced practice nursing certification in family practice.
  • Demonstrated experience in advanced practice nursing that includes:
    • Recent experience as a family nurse practitioner.
    • Experience teaching courses related to advanced practice nursing or a course which includes practice supervision of students in a clinical setting.
    • Experience in physical/health assessment.
  • Current active RN and advanced practice license with eligibility for Illinois licensure.
  • Strong and effective communication skills.
  • Experience that suggests sensitivity to, and an understandings of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of students, staff, and faculty.
  • Proficient computer skills and experience with instructional technology.

Responsibilities

  • Didactic and clinical instruction of advanced practice nursing courses which will include:
    • Organize, plan and prepare course documents (e.g. syllabi, lectures, assignments, etc.) in areas of theory and clinical practice.
    • Supervise, teach, and evaluate students’ performance in the clinical setting.
    • Posting course materials and related information on web-based course site.
  • Communicate regularly with clinical preceptors and students to review ongoing coursework and student clinical performance.
  • Arrange individual placements with preceptors as needed.
  • Participate in activities related to program review, curriculum development, and serve on SON committees.
  • Maintain office hours to advise and assist students as needed.

Applicants must hold a doctorate in nursing or a related field or expect to complete degree requirements prior to September, 2008. Eligibility for Illinois state licensure is required. Evidence of active research and scholarship along with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching are expected.
