Personal Information

Nicole joined the faculty in June 2007 after completing her PhD in Nursing Science (2007) and her MS in Nursing in Midwifery (2002) at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Her doctoral research, for which she was awarded the Alice Dan Dissertation Award, focused on the lived experiences of rural midwives in Mali, West Africa. Dr. Warren also completed her MPH at the Bloomberg School of Public Health (1999) and her BN (1998), both at the Johns Hopkins University. She also served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Mali from 1994-1996.  Nicole is on staff as nurse-midwife at Swedish Covenant Hospital. Dr. Warren is the Director of "Mali Midwives", a non-profit organization dedicated to helping rural midwives in Mali get continuing education. She enjoys spending time with her kids, Felix and Iggy.

Research Interests:
Maternal mortality in sub-Saharan Africa, midwifery care in Mali, caring for women affected by FGC (female genital cutting); clinical interventions during the second and third stages of labor.
