Overview
The Niehoff School of Nursing offers the Master of Science in Nursing degree in cardiovascular health and disease management. The program prepares professional nurses for leadership roles at an advanced-practice role who will be effective in the management of the health and illness of patients at risk for cardiac disease or patients recovering from a cardiac event.
This program is ideally suited for nurses who seek to expand their specialty in cardiovascular nursing to include primary and secondary prevention and treatment in the ambulatory setting, as well as those nurses seeking to gain expertise in case-managing special populations.
The program promotes in-depth exploration of significant clinical problems occurring in cardiac/vascular patients in both the acute and chronic settings, evidence-based guidelines for managing these patients, and new models for care delivery. The graduate will develop leadership skills in education and counseling for disease management and lifestyle change.
Curriculum
The cardiac C.N.S. major consists of 40 semester hours of study. Students also have the option of combining the oncology C.N.S. role with the adult nurse-practitioner role. Students who wish to pursue a combined C.N.S./A.N.P. track are required to complete 51 hours of study.
