Accelerated Bachelor of Science Nursing (A.B.S.N.)
The Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (A.B.S.N.) program accepts students who hold non-nursing bachelor’s degrees. A minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0(on a 4.0 scale) in all college work completed and 46 hours of prerequisite coursework are required for application to this program. The sequence of courses in nursing is offered in a 12.5-month, full-time day program.
The nursing portion of the program is identical to the traditional B.S.N., only compressed. Students in the B.S.N. program have the same quality faculty and experiences as other students in the School of Nursing. However, the core requirements and prerequisites are slightly different:
Admission Requirements
- A baccalaureate degree, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in all college cousework completed
- Completion or documented intent to complete the 37 required prerequisite credits listed below:

All prerequisite courses must be completed before beginning the A.B.S.N. program. These courses may have been part of your original baccalaureate degree or may have been taken since that time at Loyola or another college (see the university's list of transferable classes). All science courses must include a laboratory component. Grades of D do not transfer. Advisement is available for those with questions regarding the prerequisites. Ordinarily, science prerequisites must be taken within five years of entering the School of Nursing.

- Letter explaining decision to enroll in the A.B.S.N. and your professional goals (not to exceed 300 words)

- Completed Course Completion Form and Prerequisite Completion Form
ADVISEMENT
Advisement is available in the form of transcript evaluations for those with questions regarding the prerequisites. Please fax unofficial transcripts to Sasha Daley at (773)508-3241. All faxed transcripts must include an e-mail address. All evaluations will be returned via e-mail within 2 to 3 business days.
Prospective students to the ABSN program are strongly encouraged to attend at least one information session prior to applying to the program. ONCE ADMITTED
- A deposit fee of $350, paid upon acceptance to the program
- Upon acceptance: Fulfill health requirements, health insurance and complete CPR Certification at the Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider level. To find a class in your area contact the American Heart Association.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Tuition plus mandatory university fees is $31,600, not including room and board, and fees such as laboratory and testing fees. Financial aid is available in the form of loans for A.B.S.N. students. A limited number of scholarships are available to students in the fall semester from the School of Nursing. Application Deadlines
Early admission is available for qualified applicants that have completed all prerequisite courses. Early admission applications are due October 1, 2008. Decision notifications will be mailed by October 15, 2008.
Regular admission applications will be due November 15, 2008 for applicants that meet the minimum admissions requirements. Decision Notifications will be sent on a rolling basis beginning December 1, 2008. All decisions will be finalized by the middle of February. The timing of your decision notification will depend on the amount of science prerequisite credits completed. Fall 2008 grades may be required to review certain applications.
