Austin is one of the city's largest neighborhoods in both geographical size and population. Community groups and residents are constantly working to revitalize this neighborhood. Bounded by Roosevelt Road, North Avenue, Austin Boulevard and Kenton Avenue., it is apparent from the mix of beautifully restored homes on some streets, and large, neglected apartment buildings on others, that Austin is an evolving neighborhood. In 2000 the average sale price of a single-family home in Austin was $110,000. Rental apartments in rehabbed Austin buildings remain affordable, starting at about $375 for a studio; $460 for a one-bedroom unit; and $550 for two-bedroom units. Rehabbed three-bedroom apartments start at around $600 and go up to $725.
