Alderman Reverend Dr. Leonard
DeVille has lived in Brainerd for 31 years and has raised
his children here. "Brainerd is an upstanding community and has
stayed solid and pretty much stayed the same for many years,"
DeVille says. But when he means the community has remained in
tact, he doesn't mean that it hasn't been improved.
Brainerd has recently been the
target for The New Homes for Chicago initiative enforced by Mayor
Daley and Thomas J. Coates and Associates. Obsolete commercial
corridors have been transformed into the Brainerd Public Library
and new Metra station.
Brainerd's boundaries are Vincennes,
Ashland Avenue, 87th Street, and 95th Street. It contains four
elementary schools and one high school. The area's population
is 12,343.
