Bound by Lake Michigan, Oak Street,
Chicago River, and the east side of Michigan Avenue, Streeterville
is the area that occupies the North end of the "Magnificent Mile,"
and stretches south to the Water Tower on Michigan Avenue. Though
Streeterville is considered downtown-proper, the residents of
the area like to consider it their own small town, and there are
plenty of boutique shops and horse-drawn carriages in the area
to create such an atmosphere.
People aspiring to live in Streeterville
will more than likely end up in a condominium there, as this is
the signature property of the neighborhood. The average rent for
a one bedroom condo is around $1,500 per month, and the average
price for a condo is about $350,000, though apartments in the
Water Tower Place run on average well over $1 million (where daytime
television names like Oprah and Jerry Springer call home).
Due to the ever-skyrocketing living
cost here, the area is occupied mostly by middle-aged professionals
whose children have already flown from the nest and headed off
to their respective Ivy League schools.
Transportation in Streeterville
is ample, but the most preferred means of travel here is by taxi,
as parking is scarce-at best.
