Paul Poulakos
Being a recent transfer student at Loyola, I have not yet been able to establish the level of participation some of the other executive leaders have in Loyola’s AED chapter. A new face, however, cannot be mistaken for a lack of experience or commitment. As a transfer student, and a member of Wisconsin’s AED chapter, I have brought with me my own experiences and insights. As the executive board mentioned, in the upcoming academic year AED will be undergoing many changes. As your Pre-health chair, I look forward to implementing these changes. Many of us say we want to go into medicine, yet have little familiarity with the scope of opportunities this field entails. For example, many may have heard of osteopathic medicine, but have no idea what it means to be an osteopathic physician. It is my goal to provide AED members the resources and guidance they need to explore their interests in the medical field. While medical school will continue to be competitive, it is important that we remain positive and true to our vision and goals. One of the things I’d like to incorporate into the organization is the idea of highlighting a different medical school every week or month. My aim is to show pre-health students that there are numerous schools to facilitate their professional education and, at the same time, provide them with the specifics that will prepare them for the schools they may be interested in.
I look forward to networking with other organizations on campus, and creating new opportunities for AED members to reach out to the community and broaden their knowledge. I will organize ways to recruit new members to the organization and, at the same time, maintain an outlet for our members to further their involvement in both the academic and social community. I have strong faith in my ability to facilitate the transformation the graduating seniors will initiate and leave for the remaining board to put into action and continue. My understanding and open-minded nature will allow me to not only lead an organization but be part of those being led. I have never been one to shy away from criticism or advice, and I welcome and encourage others to give me insight on how to perform more efficiently. My perseverance and determination enable me to be self-motivated until I fulfill my responsibilities and complete my tasks to their full potential. I ask you to elect me, Paul Poulakos, as your pre-health chair and look forward to next year!

I am running for the pre-health chair because I am very knowledgeable about the admissions process for many health professional schools and would like the opportunity to share my knowledge with the rest of you. There are other pre-health programs that I also know about such as the early assurance program. My brother recently got accepted to medical school and will start attending next year. I have helped him throughout the entire process by giving advice, and this has given me a strong understanding what health professional schools are looking for in strong candidates. As a result, I find it easy to coordinate events through the Pre-Health office to reach a broader range of students considering a health related career. I am very familiar with writing personal statements and will offer my services to give suggestions if anyone needs help.
I am familiar with the Office and Pre-Health Advising and have personally met Dr. Johnson, the director. As a result, I find it easy to coordinate events through the Pre-Health office to reach a broader range of students considering a health related career. In addition, this will allow me to stay up to date with any new pertinent announcements and procedures so I can relay that information to you. I also have connections with other schools and can plan speakers from the admissions committee’s so that you all can hear firsthand what these schools desire in a successful applicant. If you need help figuring out what schools to apply to, I can help provide resources that will give you further information on the schools and their strengths.
My final goal as the pre-health chair is to make Alpha Epsilon Delta more interconnected with other health-related organizations. While the majority of members are pre-medicine, I also understand that AED is a pre-health organization. Therefore, my objective as the pre-health chair will be to provide more resources to students interested in podiatry, dental, pharmacy, physical therapy, or even nursing school. I look forward to sharing my knowledge and skills with all of you next year, and wish you all the best in preparing yourself for your respective future careers.
