Welcome!
CIEGSA is comprised of both present graduate students and alumni who are active in the field of Comparative and International Education. While the majority of our members specialize in Comparative Education within the School of Education Department of Leadership, Foundations, and Counseling Psychology (LFCP), we do have members from across the Loyola community and beyond. We are advised by Dr. Epstein and other members of the School of Education Cultural and Educational Policy Studies faculty.
The diversity of our group both geographically and in terms of scholarly interest and experience greatly enriches the quality of professional development here at Loyola. Some of us are international students and alumni from a large variety of countries, including Liberia, Tanzania, Benin, Nigeria, Mozambique, Iran, Thailand, Japan, Hong Kong, Haiti and Mexico. Others are American students whose research interests focus geographically on Greece, the Koreas, Italy, Puerto Rico, Cuba, the Czech Republic, China, Germany, and the Scandinavia countries. We speak well over 15 different languages and dialects, including French, Korean, Chinese, Turkish, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Farsi/Persian, Arabic, Thai, Russian, Japanese, Finnish, Shangaan-Rhonga and Greek. Our group meets monthly to share information, ideas, food, and friendship.
As a community, we are actively engaged in presenting research at our regional, national and international comparative education meetings. For examples of research topics on which we currently focus, bio-sketches of individual members, and information about the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES) an the World Council for Compartive Education Societies (WCCES) visit the Center for Comparative Education site.
The expansiveness of the field of comparative international education benefits significantly from a large and diverse community of active members; we invite you to join us as we exchange ideas regarding his exciting and important field by contacting us for consideration as a member to our list-serv.
List Service
Our list-service functions as a major part of our communication network. Through it we keep each other up to date on events regarding our academic program, upcoming meetings and conferences, developments in the field, important publications, and job and grant opportunities.
