Circus And Biology Bar

by Nina Martines

After a stressful week of school and work, a night filled with good music and dancing is long overdue. Although there may be numerous nightclubs to go to in Chicago, there is one that fits every need. Every Saturday, V5 entertainment offers two nightclubs next door to each other for the price of one. This is the only place in Chicago where one cover provides the experience of two nightclubs. The atmosphere of Circus and Biology Bar is vibrant and festive, catering to a predominately, but not exclusive, Latin crowd.

Saturdays at Circus and Biology Bar offers nonstop music from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. The music is divided into three rooms that cater to various styles including Latin beats in Circus, hip hop, house and old school music in Biology Bar and tropical sounds in the Arusha room. These clubs are located in the heart of Chicago’s nightlife scene at 901 W. Weed St.

The event is hosted by V5, one of the largest marketing promoters in the Chicago entertainment scene. Twenty-one years of age and over are only allowed entrance, with an enforced dress code, which establishes an upscale environment to nearly 1,000 people a night. Admission is normally $15, however, prior to going, register on the guest list on-line and receive complimentary admission till 11:30 p.m.

The DJs work from a suspended booth and it is their experience and expertise that stimulate the crowd to move to the beat.

Circus is a colorful, eye-catching venue divided into three oval rings. The first outer layer is for private parties, the middle is a deck filled with seats to sit and enjoy the view and the center is a spherical dance floor. Biology Bar is a combination of a chemistry lab and a flashy lounge with the bar being the center of attraction. The area is outlined with futuristic seating and a spacious dance floor in the main area. The Arusha room is also located in Biology Bar divided by a wall with a more intimate dance floor and cozy seats to allow people to escape from the more energetic rooms.

“This club is different from any other club in Chicago because it provides a variety of music in multiple rooms each providing a change in the scene allowing people to get their money worth,” resident DJ Exta C said.
