IRB Policy to Encourage Greater Faculty Responsibility in the Preparation of Research Protocols
(1) At the beginning of each academic year, all faculty investigators will be informed of the status of all their active research protocols including those of their graduate students. A summary of the status of investigator protocols will be sent to the appropriate departmental designee.
(2) In addition to the present policy of having a mandatory meeting of the faculty sponsor/student investigator with the Compliance Manager and IRB Chair after two tablings, An email stating that the Faculty Investigator/Sponsor has two tablings of a particular protocol will be sent to the Faculty member in question and also to the Department Chair, appropriate Dean or to the Assistant Dean for Graduate Studies.
(3) Three consecutive tablings of a research protocol or one Board disallowance of research data would result in the IRB declining to review any new research, including amendments to existing protocols and new proposals, until the responsible faculty member has instituted a course of corrective actions required by the IRB. Review of research by the IRB would only resume when the responsible faculty member has instituted a course of actions required by the IRB to facilitate greater compliance with IRB policies and Federal Regulations.
(4) The actions referred to above could include, but are not limited to additional meetings with the IRB Chair/Compliance Manager, additional investigator education and other actions that could facilitate greater investigator compliance.
