Starting in the spring semester of 2013, the Office for Outdoor Experiential Education will offer gear rentals to the Loyola University Chicago community. It is our goal to offer valuable outdoor experiences by providing quality gear to enable safe, enjoyable self-guided experiences.

All students, faculty, and staff with a valid Loyola ID are eligible for the rental program. 

Gear available for rent includes:

• Tents – Tents are available for car-camping and backpacking trips during the spring, summer, and fall. We have tents designed for one person and multiple people (2-5 people).
• Backpacks – Backpacks are available in a range of sizes from extra-small to extra-large.
• Sleeping Bags – Sleeping bags are available for mild backpacking climates, damp and cold backpacking climates, and car-camping.
• Stoves & Cooking Gear – Single burner stoves are available for rent as well as fuel. Cooking gear rentals include a pot set containing two pots, cooking utensils, cleaning utensils, and a measuring utensil.

Gear is primarily available for weekend rentals; the weekend rental period starts on Thursday and ends on Monday.  Longer rental periods and rentals not occurring Thursday through Monday are available upon request.

The rental program office is open  by appointment only: rentoutdoors@LUC.edu. The rental program office is located in the Halas Recreation Center on Loyola’s Lake Shore Campus.  Please note, payment is required at time of check-out and gear is available for check-out on a first come, first served basis.

If equipment is not returned on time, returned incomplete, or damanged, an Equipment Late/Damage Fee will be charged by the Office of Outdoor Education.  If the fee is not paid in a timely fashion, the fee will be charged to the student account.  Please see Rental Program Policies for more details.
