Printing with the Secondary Palette
A secondary palette of colors has been developed to complement our official university colors and to distinguish
our various academic schools and programs. Certain colors have been assigned for the exclusive use of
individual schools, while others may be used by any area of the university. With Identity & Design's permission,
departments may request to use colors that are either not assigned to their school, or to use colors not listed.
These colors are to be used as accent colors for materials printed in 4-color (or 4+). Official maroon, PMS 208,
is still required as the dominant color for any printed piece. Breakdowns of color usage are as follows:
- For 4+ color printing: The logo should be used either on the front or the back of any 4+ color piece and in the full-color version of maroon, gold and black. Maroon should be the dominant spot/CMYK converted
color for any piece. The use of official gold, PMS 137, as a spot color is encouraged, but can appear only in
the logo if necessary for the design. Secondary and/or accent colors may also be used throughout, but none
can be more dominant than the maroon.
- For 3-color printing: Pieces should be printed in either: maroon, gold and black; or maroon, gold and the appropriate accent color. Maroon should be the dominant color. The use of official gold as a spot color
is encouraged, but can appear only in the logo if necessary for the design.
- For 2-color printing: Pieces should be printed in maroon and gold, or maroon and black. Maroon should be the dominant color.
- For 1-color printing: Use maroon or black for all elements.
