Last year's 4th Annual Philanthropy For All Seasons was a success, and this year promises, once again, to be well-attended. The NMPS' 5th Annual Philanthropy For All Seasons gives their attendees the opportunity to meet key leaders in Chicago's non-profit and philanthropic communities and engage in dialogue about the purpose of and current challenges facing philanthropy among the academic, nonprofit, and philanthropic communities.

We are pleased to announce that Sandra P. Guthman, President and CEO of Polk Bros. Foundation, will be the event's Guest Speaker. Sandra Guthman has been President of Board of Directors of the Polk Bros. Foundation since 1988 and its full‑time CEO since 1993.  The Polk Bros. Foundation is a private foundation with assets of approximately $450 million making grants of about $25 million per year for direct services that impact inner‑city children, youth and families in Chicago, primarily for social service, education and cultural programs.  Prior to 1993, Mrs. Guthman spent 28 years with the IBM Corp. in various marketing capacities, including branch manager and Director of Marketing for the Midwest.  She serves on the boards of the Northern Institutional Funds and Northern Funds, Rush University Medical Center, as Chair Emerita of the board of the Harris Theater for Music and Dance, Chairman of the board of Window to the World Communications (WTTW/Channel 11 and WFMT98.7), Chairs the Advisory Board of Hubbard Street Dance Chicago and serves on the Education Advisory Committees of the Museum of Science and Industry and the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University as well as the Wellesley College Davis Art Museum Advisory Council.  She was formerly a member of the Founders Committee for Millennium Park, Chicago, Chair of the Executive Committee of the Civic Consulting Alliance and is currently a member of the Business Leadership Council of Wellesley College, The Chicago Network, the Commercial Club of Chicago and The Economic Club of Chicago.  Mrs. Guthman received a BA from Wellesley College with General Honors in Economics.

The NMPS will present the 2008 Louis T. Delgado Social Justice in Philanthropy Award to Jeanne Kracher, Executive Director of the Crossroads Fund. Initiated in 2007 and selected by a diverse committee, the award is given annually to honor and recognize an individual who or organization that best exemplifies the highest standards in their business practices; a strong commitment to justice and the advancement of philanthropy; whose achievements have made an impact on society and in the metropolitan Chicago area.

The Crossroads Fund is a public foundation that gives money to groups working for racial, social and economic justice in the Chicago area.   Since its founding in 1981, Crossroads Fund has given out close to $5 million in grants to groups working to examine and challenge the underlying causes of injustice and make fundamental systems change.  Jeanne joined the Crossroads Fund as Executive Director in March of 2000, but she has a long history with the foundation – first as a grantee in the late 1980’s and then as a member of the Board of Directors from 1996 to 1998.  Jeanne has a wealth of experience as a community activist and nonprofit manager. She was a founding member of ACT-UP/Chicago, executive director of Women in the Director’s Chair, and a member of the Women’s Health Education Project. As a documentary filmmaker, she produced films and videos addressing a variety of subjects from healthcare in prisons to a history of the women’s global peace and justice movement.

Jeanne is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Donors Forum and served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Funding Exchange for five years.

We would like to specially thank Loyola's Office of the President, Office of the Provost, University Marketing and Communications, Office of Special Events, and Corporate and Foundation Relations.
