About

Brandon Morgan-Olsen is a Senior Lecturer of Philosophy at Loyola University Chicago. He received a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Washington, Seattle in 2010, defending a dissertation entitled “Listening in Public: Duties of Civility in a Pluralistic Democracy”. Prior to joining the faculty at Loyola, he spent a year as Postdoctoral Fellow in Democracy and Diversity at Queen’s University, under the supervision of Professor Will Kymlicka, and a year as Biological Futures Research Associate with the Program on Values in Society (UW Seattle).

His teaching and research interests include social and political philosophy, ethics, and philosophy of science. His work thus far has focused on ethical issues having to do with public deliberation, public reason, and political inclusion, and has appeared in such journals as Social Theory and Practice and Philosophy of the Social Sciences. Current projects include work on normative issues that arise when “democratizing” science, investigation into ties between multiculturalism and toleration, and analysis of duties of civility in non-ideal contexts.

A current list of his publications, presentations, and teaching can be found on his personal website: https://bmorganolsen.sites.luc.edu/.
