M.A. in Health care Ethics: Resources

Lutheran General Hospital. Students in the Master's in Health Care Ethics have the opportunity to "shadow" an ethicist at a local Chicago hospital. As part of the shadowing program, students write a paper on an issue that derives from the clinical experience. Each student works in conjunction with his/her clinical mentor and Loyola faculty member.

Chicago Clinical Ethics Program. The Chicago Clinical Ethics Program (CCEP) involves quarterly meetings where both members and non-members can participate in a comprehensive program on clinical ethics. A large annual conference is held in Chicago in August each year. Participants come from a broad cross-section of clinical backgrounds, including nurses, gerontologists, physicians, social workers, and administrators. Students in the M.A. program may be interested in becoming members of the CCEP, and attending the annual meetings.

American Society on Aging. Dr. Mark Waymack is the co-ordinator of the ethics programming for the yearly ASA meeting. The venue for this conference changes from year-to-year, but most recently has been Florida, California, and Colorado. Students interested in this organization, or in presenting on an issue in ethics and aging, can make enquiries to Dr. Waymack.
