Expect the Unexpected: Challenges in ROL Project Management

This lecture will cover the topic of unexpected challenges in the implementation of rule of law projects. No matter how well you plan, and no matter how closely you keep within your budget and keep to your schedule, there will be bumps in the road while managing rule of law projects. This is especially the case in challenging environments – post-conflict countries or developing countries in general. This guest lecture will use examples from USAID-funded projects Ms. Vapnek has managed in Democratic Republic of Congo and Haiti, outlining challenges that cropped up and how they were managed. After a presentation of the two projects and some of the challenges faced and surmounted, the floor will be opened for questions from students.
