Research Study

Process

What happens when you do research?

When children and their families participate in research projects like C.H.A.T.S. they are making a very important contribution to science and society. Read the following to learn exactly what we do when we do research.

The Idea
A researcher has an idea called an hypothesis

Library Work

The researcher goes to the library to read articles and writes a proposal about the idea.

The Grant

The researcher is awarded money to do research on the idea.

Data Collection

T he researcher develops a research team to interview people called subjects. The information subjects give the team is called data.

Data Entry

The data are broken down into variables these data are typed into the computer

Journals

The data are analyzed and a report is written. The report is published in magazines called journals.

Conferences

The researcher goes to special meetings called conferences. Teachers, other researchers, and political people who help others all go to conferences.

Programs

The written reports and research meetings help people learn how to design helpful programs.
