Social Science Track
The requirements for psychology majors in the social science and natural science tracks are provided here with checklists students can use to follow their progress through the major. The only difference between the natural science and social science tracks in psychology is in the ancillary courses.
Natural Science Track Ancillary Courses
Students in the natural science track must take:
- Biology 101/111
- Biology 102/112
- Two additional lecture/lab courses (4 hours each) in biology, chemistry or physics
Psychology majors in the natural science track are exempt from the "Societal and Cultural Knowledge," "Quantitative Literacy," and "Scientific Literacy" areas of the Core Curriculum.
Social Science Track Ancillary Courses
Students in the social science track must take: Three social science courses (9 hours total) in any combination from:
- Anthropology
- Criminal Justice
- Economics
- Political Science
- Social Work
- Sociology
Certain courses in marketing or management, and education also may be accepted, but check first with the psychology undergraduate program director.
Psychology majors in the social sciences track are exempt from the "Societal and Cultural Knowledge" and "Quantitative Literacy" areas of the core.

Ancillary Mathematics Courses (6 hours): If PSYC 381 is chosen to count as an ancillary math course, it will not count as one of the 12 required psychology courses. All Psychology majors are exempt from the "Quantitative Literacy" requirement of the Core Curriculum. | |
