John J. Naughton


John is an Audit Partner in KPMG’s Chicago office Consumer and Industrial Business practice. He also serves as an SEC Reviewing Partner, and is the Chicago Metro Business Unit Professional Practice Partner. He has more than 30 years of experience providing financial statement audit, audit of internal control, performance improvement advisory, and due diligence services. He has also served as partner in charge of human resources for KPMG’s Midwest area, and as partner in charge of recruiting for the Chicago office.

Professional and Industry Experience

John has provided financial statement and internal control audit services to clients in the manufacturing, distribution, retail, technology services, and higher education areas, and has served numerous large, multi-national corporations. His audit experience includes SEC filings, carve-out financial statements, and the successful coordination of large global audit engagements. He has a thorough understanding of SEC rules and regulations and has been involved in numerous debt and equity offerings. He has also developed financial models to assist in evaluating alternative capital markets transactions, and served as an expert witness on accounting and auditing matters.

John’s role as Chicago Metro Business Unit Professional Practice Partner includes consultation with engagement teams, assignment and coordination of concurring and SEC reviewing partner reviews, identifying and responding promptly to emerging professional practice issues, monitoring the results of self reviews, peer reviews and PCAOB inspections, overseeing prospective client evaluations and client continuance, and addressing other professional practice issues.

John received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting from Loyola University Chicago in 1978. He is a certified public accountant and a member of the AICPA and the Illinois CPA Society. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Chicago, where he serves as Treasurer, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Illinois Chamber of Commerce.
