A Connecting Business and Sciences Lecture: Water and Energy Nexus in Power Plants
Dr. Narasimha Rao, Vice President, R&D and Automation Global Water, F&B, and Textile Care, Ecolab Inc., Nalco

The Center for International Business partnered with Alpha Kappa Psi business fraternity to host Dr. Narasihma Rao, VP of R&D at Ecolab, to speak with students about the business of water and energy in the Industrial and Institutional space.  He discussed the interdependence between water and energy management: water is needed in the production of energy, energy is needed in the production and management of water.  Efficient water management can result in energy savings by proper management of corrosion, scale and microbiological issues.  Dr. Rao also discussed the importance of innovation in solving customer problems.  He discussed the example of 3D TRASARTM technology for Cooling Water systems, and AquanomicsTM Technology for laundry management as examples that use innovative solutions that combine chemistry, automation, equipment and services to manage water and energy efficiently.  He also discussed how a systematic plant wide approach can be used to reduce water and energy footprint for industrial customers, and discussed the importance of conservation and recycle initiatives, especially in areas of the world with limited water resources. Enclosed is a shortened version of his presentation.
