Educational Campaigns
Loyola University Chicago held special educational campaigns on the two lakeside campuses to educate on waste reduction and recycling best practices.
Participation Through Knowledge: Trivia questions related to resource conservation and best recycling practices were regularly posted in electronic news sources for students, faculty and staff. Here are a few trivia questions Loyola folks responded to:
- True or False? Plastic bags can be placed in recycling bins that collect cans, glass and plastic containers.
- According to the USGS, how much water does the average person use each day?
- According to the U.S. EPA, what is the most environmentally friendly way to get rid of garbage?
Participation Through Action: Faculty, staff, and students were rewarded with recognition and prizes when they recycled or committed a "natural resource saving action".
- Departments within campus buildings participated in a "building" competition to recycle the most mixed paper, plastics, cans, and glass. Received a Certificate of Recognition for their motivation and spirit in encouraging others to act responsibly.
- Folks "Caught Green Handed" - received prizes when observed recycling, filling up a non disposable water bottle or shopping with a reusable shopping bag.
Loyola University Chicago and the Consumption Reduction and Recycling Advisory Committee express great appreciation to Chipotle, Radio Shack and Carmen's Pizzeria for generously donating gifts to be given to winners in the competitions.
The Consumption Reduction and Recycling Advisory Committee and Facilities Management thank all the volunteers that helped make RecycleMania a success at Loyola University Chicago.
