Move-In 2008: Instructions
The Department of Residence Life Welcomes You to Your New Residence Hall Community!
Your Move-in Pass
Your move-in pass was sent to you in the mail. It shows your assigned move-in date and time. All students have been assigned a specific move-in date and time. Due to the large number of students who need to move in, Loyola must assign specific dates and times to prevent traffic jams and long elevator waits.
Please arrive at your assigned time and follow the move-in procedures to ensure an efficient move-in process. Please bring the move-in pass with you. Present it at traffic control points and at your residence hall check-in station. A parking pass was also included in the packet you received. Please place that pass in the left front windshield of your vehicle.
We understand that the date and time assigned to you may be inconvenient. However, we are not able to accommodate changes. It is necessary that you make every possible effort to arrange your travel to coincide with your assigned date and time. If you arrive outside of your assigned move-in period, you will be directed to a parking garage and will be required to wait until conditions allow you to proceed.
Move-in Assistance
Professional movers and student volunteers will be available at your designated unloading zone to assist with unloading your vehicle and moving your belongings to your room. Movers and volunteers will use carts to move your belongings to your room.
Lake Shore Campus residents: Volunteer movers will only assist you on your first trip to the room; subsequent trips will be unassisted. After your first trip, you will be asked to park in the outer lots surrounding campus. The supply of carts is limited and cannot be taken to the outer lots. Georgetown and Fairfield Halls do not have elevators, so it is recommended that you bring any needed moving equipment with you to move larger or heavier items through the stairwells.
Baumhart Hall residents: Professional movers will only assist you on your first trip to the room; subsequent trips will be unassisted. After your first trip, you will be asked to park in the pay lots near the Water Tower Campus. Loyola will not be providing parking downtown. For information about parking options, please see: Parking Lots Near Water Tower Campus.
All students: The Department of Residence Life highly recommends that you limit what you bring to campus. Everything you bring should be able to fit into no more than two of the move-in carts. Students bringing large furniture items may be asked not to bring them into the residence halls. Maneuvering large furniture items in narrow hallways has caused severe wall damage.
Oversize Vehicles
Oversize vehicles (RVs, moving trucks) are strongly discouraged. These types of vehicles will be directed to the Albion lot on the west side of campus to unload and park and will not be allowed to pull into the unloading zones by the residence halls.
Loyola ID Card
All students must bring their Loyola ID card and carry it with them at all times. New students attending Discover Loyola have already been issued new ID cards. Returning students living on campus should have their ID card from the previous year. The Campus Card Office will be open during move-in and students without a card will immediately be directed to have a new card made at their expense.
Hall-specific Instructions
Detailed information on how and where to arrive on the campus, where to unload and park, and a campus map were included in the mailing you received. That information is specific to your particular residence hall. It is important to follow the directions you received since some roads around the campus will be barricaded and parking is restricted along many of the city streets and campus roads.
The City of Chicago and Loyola Campus Safety will be enforcing parking and traffic restrictions. Vehicles will be towed if necessary. Your cooperation will help prevent traffic problems and move-in delays, and increase the probability that you will have an efficient and positive move-in experience.
Here is a breakdown of the steps in the move-in process:
- Follow the directions on the map to your designated unloading zone.
- Volunteers will unload your vehicle using carts and other equipment.
- Volunteers will take the carts to your room while you move your car to your designated parking location. If desired, a family member/friend can stay with your carts and accompany them to the room.
- After parking your car, proceed to your designated check-in location to obtain keys and complete required paperwork.
- Proceed to your room where volunteers will be waiting to unload the cart in your room.
