John felice rome center Summer Undergraduate Program

    May 22-June 25, 2010

This five-week program is scheduled to permit students to return to Chicago in time to participate in Loyola's second Summer Session. Most classes will meet for one-and-a-half-hour sessions Monday through Thursday, and will be taught by Rome- and Chicago-based Loyola faculty. On-site classes will meet twice a week for slightly over three hours. The final exam is typically scheduled for the last class meeting of each course.

Please be aware that, when you are making your flight reservations, all participants in this program are expected to arrive at the JFRC on Saturday morning, May 22, and are required to depart by 8:30 a.m. on Friday, June 25. There is no school-sponsored student group flight for the summer; all students must book their own round-trip tickets.  Students will reside in double rooms on campus while enrolled in the program. Administrative and student life support will be provided by JFRC staff

    APPLICATION DEADLINE

Monday, March 22, 2010, or until program fills (whichever arrives sooner)!

Should the program fill sooner, applications received after it fills will be placed on a waitlist. All applications must be in our Chicago office no later than Monday, March 22nd; any received after this date will not be considered even for the waitlist.

    Application Procedure

Complete applications are reviewed weekly on Fridays.  Letters of admission are sent to all applicants via e-mail.

The following items constitute a completed application for summer study at the JFRC:

    • A completed, signed and dated summer application form*
    • Submission of an application fee of $500 with the application form, of which $100 is a study abroad processing fee and $400 applies toward housing charges
    • A completed academic advisor recommendation form (sent to our office by the advisor)
    • A completed judicial recommendation form (sent to our office by the student affairs officer) [Loyola University Chicago students need not complete this form as the Office of Student Conduct will provide this information directly to the Office for International Programs]
    • Submission of an official transcript with the application form [again, Loyola-Chicago students need not submit a transcript as we can access Loyola records directly]
    • Submission of a photocopy of the data page of the student's valid passport.

*Students not currently enrolled at Loyola University Chicago must also file an online summer application form for admission to Loyola University Chicago. It is not possible to register for classes unless a visiting student has filed this form.

For step-by-step application instructions and all necessary online forms, visit https://webapps.luc.edu/register/summer/

    INFORMATION PACKET

An information packet will be prepared for each student after he or she has been formally admitted and returned the signed "intent to enroll" form. Loyola University Chicago students may pick up their packets from The HUB in the Sullivan Center for Student Services.  Packets will be available at The HUB the Monday following the week a student submitted his or her signed form. Packets for visiting students will be sent to the study abroad office at their home institution and may be picked up from that office; an e-mail will be sent to visiting students to alert them when a packet has been mailed.

Abruzzo Study Trip,  June 4-6, 2010 [Optional - additional cost]

The Rome Center offers a weekend (3 day, 2 night) all expenses included trip to the beautiful, rustic Valle Roveto in Italy's mountain region of Abruzzo. We will tour a hilltop town, getting a first-hand look at local food and culture. Students will also participate in several hikes to experience the natural beauty of the valley and mountain ranges, including waterfalls, mountain paths, and centuries-old hermitages. Accommodation will be in a Nature Reserve in multiple occupancy rooms with a dedicated, full bathroom (single occupancy surcharges apply). For your safety, sturdy hiking boots, a hooded and waterproof windbreaker, long pants, and hat are necessities, as we will be spending much time outdoors, possibly at high altitudes; your participation in this outing can be denied if you do not have the required equipment.

    REGISTRATION

Registration for Summer 2010 begins Monday, February 15, 2010.  To  register, you will need your Loyola ID (UVID) and a password. If you are not a Loyola U Chicago student, you will not have a Loyola ID and password unless you have submitted the online form mentioned above.
