Sergio S. Balanzino,Ambassador (ret.), was born in Bologna June 20 1934. He received an Interntional Scholarship from the U. of Wisconsin for the academi year 1956-57. He graduated from the U. of Rome (Law) in 1958. He joined the Italian Diplomatic Service in 1960 and was posted toParis,Zurich,Nairobi,Athens And Ottawa. Director General for Cultural Relations at the MFA in Rome 1988-90. He served as Ambassador to Canada 1990-94 then appointed NATO's Dep. Secretary General 1994-2001. After retirement he became successively professor of Political Science at the U. of Florence, the U. of Rome and the Loyola U. Rome Center.
