Dr. Schwarten earned his PhD in Italian Literature and Linguistics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His translation of Silvia Mantini's "Women's History in Italy: Cultural Itineraries and New Proposals in Current Historiographical Trends" appeared in the Journal of Women's History. He is currently completing a translation for renowned Italian novelist, Dacia Maraini. He has written articles on Italian language and the dialects of Italy, and is active in promoting Italian-Danish relations in Civita D'Antino, a town in Abruzzo which was the site of a painting school frequented by Scandinavian painters at the turn of the 20th century.
