Rome Center Summer Undergraduate Program


The Summer 2008 session information will be available in late October/early November. Please check back to this page for information about the Summer 2008 session.

May 17 - June 20, 2008

This five-week program is scheduled to permit students to return to Chicago in time to participate in Loyola's second Summer Session. Most classes will meet for one-and-a-half-hour sessions Monday through Thursday, and will be taught by Rome- and Chicago-based Loyola faculty.

All participants in this program are expected to arrive at the Rome Center on Saturday morning, May 17, and are required to depart by 8:30 a.m. on Friday, June 20. Students will reside in double rooms on campus while enrolled in the program. Administrative and student life support will be provided by Rome Center staff.

Program Fee: TBA

The program fee covers tuition, entitling enrollment in up to six semester hours (two courses), room and partial board (breakfast and lunch will be provided Monday through Thursday), supplementary Italian health insurance (mandated by Italian law), room deposit, activities' fee and select additional course fees.

Roundtrip airfare [USA-Rome-USA] and international health insurance are not included in the program fee and are the personal responsibility of the student.

Application Procedure

Applications for the five-week summer 2008 session may be submitted until March 3, 2008. The following items constituted a completed application for summer study at the Rome Center:

  • a completed, signed and dated summer application form*
  • submission of an application fee of $500 with the application form, of which $100 is a study abroad processing fee and $400 applies toward your housing charges
  • a completed faculty recommendation form (sent to our office by the faculty member)
  • a completed judicial recommendation form (sent to our office by the student affairs officer)
  • submission of an official transcript with the application form (Loyola-Chicago students may order an official transcript online through LOCUS; there is no charge for transcripts)
  • submission of a photocopy of the data page of the student's valid passport.

* Students not currently enrolled at Loyola University Chicago must also file an online summer application form for admission to Loyola University Chicago. It is not possible to register for classes unless a visiting student has filed this form.  Apply online.

Pre-Departure Orientation

A pre-departure orientation session will be held for students admitted to the five-week summer Rome program in early March 2008 at Loyola's Lake Shore Campus in the Sullivan Center for Student Services.

Post-Acceptance Checklist

Once accepted, the balance of the housing/activities' fees must be paid no later than April 4, 2008; tuition will be e-billed and due no later than May 5, 2008. If you fail to pay the balance due on April 4th, you will be withdrawn from any Rome sections in which you may have registered.

Please turn in the following documents for your file as soon as they are available:

  • Photocopy of passport
  • Photocopy of study visa
  • Photocopy of insurance provider card (plus a letter of policy that states international coverage)
  • Emergency contact information

Textbooks

Beginning May 1, 2008, textbooks will be available for purchase at the Loyola Bookstore at the Lake Shore Campus, 6435 N. Sheridan Road, Chicago. Telephone: (773) 508-7350. E-mail: bkslake@bncollege.com  If you go into the bookstore, look for all the textbooks in the Rome section because they have been grouped there for your convenience.   Textbooks can also be purchased online beginning April 1, 2008; you can go either to loyola.bkstore.com or to whywaitforbooks.com .  

Students must purchase their textbooks in the U.S. and bring them to Rome.
