Ital 103  - Italian III

Fall 2008 / Spring 2009

Prof. Grazia Sotis

This course is a review of the first-year of elementary Italian. Its prerequisites are Italian 101 and 102 or their equivalent. Through a selection of readings, a characterization of the Italian life and culture comes into play. Basic grammatical skills are reviewed; elements of grammar and vocabulary are introduced in their cultural context. The course also aims at improving vocabulary and oral proficiency.

Students are strongly recommended to work on their home assignment on a daily basis, and sign up for the speaking partner program which allows them to gain verbal fluency. Class attendance is strongly recommended; failure to attend class will inevitably show in performance, both written and oral. There will be no make-up exams. Failure to take an exam, unless justified by real necessity (e.g., illness; travel will never be accepted as a reason to miss examinations), will bring an "F" in it. Steady progress during the course will be taken into account in the evaluation of the final grade and so will the opposite situation.

Absence Policy
a) travel plans, visiting relatives, friends, etc., cannot be accepted as valid reasons for absences unless authorized by the direotor
b) only notes authorized by a doctor, the director, the vice director, the assistant director, or the associate dean of students will be acceptable to allow a student to be excused from class.
