Lectors
Purpose
The cycle of readings used in liturgy directs us on a journey of faith. Lectors are our storytellers on this journey, proclaiming the scripture in a way that reminds us God's word is alive here and now. By leading the Prayer of the Faithful, lectors remind us of our connections to both local and global communities and help us pray for those in need.
Skills
Those in this ministry should possess good public reading skills (articulation, pacing, eye contact) and a manner of speaking that draws attention to the Word of God.
Benefit
By utilizing the provided preparation material, lectors gain a fuller knowledge and understanding of scripture. By proclaiming the scriptures in the liturgical assembly, lectors bring to birth the living word of God. The lectors minister the presence of God who speaks when the scriptures are proclaimed in church. Lectors help to feed the assembly from the table of the word, just as the presider and the extraordinary ministers help to feed the assembly from the table of the Eucharist.
Time Commitment
Lectors are placed on a schedule and must prepare the readings in advance. They also need to arrive at least twenty minutes prior to Mass. If a lector cannot make his or her scheduled liturgy, they must find a substitute lector from the roster.

Becoming Involved
All new lectors need to attend a training session. New lectors may begin at the beginning of the Fall and Spring Semesters. Information about the training sessions will be available at the first Sunday Masses of the Fall and Spring Semesters.
