Spring Courses

This note was sent on November 30, 2012

Faculty Colleagues,

As has been announced, we will be moving to Sakai starting with summer sessions in 2013.  We wanted to provide some updates on several issues relating to that move.

  1. Several faculty members have expressed an interest in using Sakai during the spring 2013 term. All courses will be loaded into Sakai but will not have student enrollments by default; enrollments will be attached to the course shells in Blackboard. Faculty who would like to use Sakai instead of Blackboard for the upcoming spring term need to send a request indicating their interest to sakai@luc.edu; this request will ensure that enrollments will be matched to the courses in Sakai. Requests must be received by December 10th.
  2. Faculty choosing to use Sakai in spring 2013 must create course content from scratch as migrated content from Blackboard courses will not be available until after the spring 2013 semester begins.
  3. Training will be an important part of our migration process. ATS and FCIP are currently working to schedule a variety of training options that will be available throughout the spring term. The training schedule will be posted to the Sakai Updates website: luc.edu/sakai
  4. One of the first steps in our migration to Sakai will be to select course shells to be copied from Blackboard. We will be asking faculty to select the courses in LOCUS they would like to have copied to Sakai. Directions for doing so will be emailed to you by December 10th. You will be asked to complete the course selection process no later than Wednesday, December 19th. Any courses not selected during this process will not be migrated to Sakai but will remain in Blackboard and be available until May 31, 2013.

Please contact us at sakai@luc.edu with any questions or refer to www.luc.edu/sakai.  Thank you for your attention to this matter.
