Mike is based in Chicago as part of Ernst & Young’s Midwest real estate tax practice. Mike has over 12 years of experience dealing with tax structuring and operational issues faced by investment partnerships, real estate opportunity funds, REITs and REIT operating partnerships. His specialties include pass-through entity taxation. Mike has performed tax consulting analysis related to fund structuring, debt cancellation, debt to equity conversions, equity investment write-offs, as well as structuring for various domestic and international investors. Mike has assisted clients in working through income, loss and debt allocations in various partnership agreements.
Mike has a number large publicly traded REIT clients as well as a number of real estate clients that operate, develop and manage real estate assets.
Mike is a member of American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Illinois CPA Society, and the Chicago Bar Association.
Mike is Certified Public Accountant and has earned a BBA in Accounting from Loyola University of Chicago, a Juris Doctorate from The John Marshall Law School, and an LLM in Taxation from The Georgetown University Law Center. Mike is an adjunct professor at the University of Illinois Masters of Science in Taxation programs.
