Beta Iota Chapter

Academic Year 2007-08

Dear Loyola Student:

As faculty advisor to the Beta Iota Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi (BAP), I would like to introduce our organization to you, a prospective member.  Beta Alpha Psi is an honorary organization for Financial Information students and professionals. The primary objective of Beta Alpha Psi is to encourage and give recognition to scholastic and professional excellence in the business information field. This includes promoting the study and practice of accounting, finance and information systems; providing opportunities for self-development, service and association among members and practicing professionals, and encouraging a sense of ethical, social, and public responsibility. Membership in the Organization is a privilege bestowed only upon the very best students.

Active participation in BAP will help you develop skills in interacting with people and taking on responsibility.  Public accounting firms and corporations alike value these abilities as much if not more than your technical skills.  Additionally, membership in BAP gives you the opportunity to gather information firsthand about your chosen profession, which in turn will allow you to make informed decisions about your career path.  This is a great opportunity.

Students are initially eligible to participate in Beta Alpha Psi as a pledge.  The requirements that correspond to pledge status are:

(Sophomores and first semester juniors only)

1.         Declared concentration in accounting, finance, or information systems.
2.         Sophomore status with 30 hours or more of earned credits.
3.         An overall GPA of 3.4 (A = 4.00)

(Students that have completed at least one upper level course in their major)

1.         Declared concentration in accounting, finance, or information systems.
2.         A 3.2 cumulative GPA (A = 4.00) in upper level major courses
3.         A 3.0 cumulative GPA (A = 4.00) in all subjects completed

If you meet the above requirements and do intend to join, please understand that it is very important that you participate in the activities of the organization.  Active membership is important not only for the reasons discussed above, but also because this is a national honors organization, and as such, reports to a national office.  Achieved Chapter status is greatly influenced by member participation.  Recognize that a significant majority of our professional, technical, and social gatherings are held, typically at 4:00pm.  Dues are $60 for the year and are payable (to Beta Alpha Psi) with the application along with a $55 national office fee (total of $115).

Information concerning membership is available from the Chapter President, Olesya Petryshyn (opetrys@luc.edu), Co-Faculty Advisor, Professor Lisa Gillespie (lgilles@luc.edu), or me during the first few weeks of class.  If you have any questions regarding membership, please contact me at (312) 915-7106 or come visit at 1 E. Pearson, Office # 526.

Sincerely,

Brian B. Stanko, Ph.D., CPA
