Outcomes
What did these effect size studies tell us?
- Relative to a comparison group (which tends to be composed of a district's better performing schools)
the study found CMSI schools posted mean changes that were almost half a year's "natural growth" greater
than that posted by the comparison groups. This finding becomes even more salient when one considers the
difficulty in moving a mean (or average) within a large population group, and the variability of implementation
in large scale curriculum reforms.
- When the results were broken down by curricula, four groups had gains over their "Pre-Post" period.
All of these were Everyday Math implementing groups and all of these groups posted gains in "Natural Growth"
that were over and above what might be expected on average.
