- What are the degree requirements for the BS in Clinical Laboratory Science?
The BS in Clinical Laboratory Science requires 129 hours of coursework to complete. This includes 39 hours of general education, the Core Curriculum; 63 hours of Science and Math prerequisites; and 30 hours of Clinical Practicum. - How long will it take to complete the BS in Clinical Laboratory Science?
The BS in Clinical Laboratory Science requires 129 hours of credit; less any credit from previous institutions accepted into the university and applied toward degree requirements.
Students new to Loyola University Chicago are to apply to the College of Arts and Sciences. For an assessment of transfer credit and requirements to determine time to degree for completion, it is best to schedule an appointment with an admission counselor. - What are the application requirements for the Clinical Laboratory Science degree?
Application Requirements - Clinical Laboratory Science
Current Loyola Students (Internal Transfer): Current Loyola students who wish to internal transfer to the Clinical Laboratory Science program are to complete the Internal Transfer Application.
To Apply as a New Loyola Student (External Transfer): Applicants new to Loyola University Chicago are to apply to the university through the College of Arts and Sciences. Once prerequisites are met, students will then follow the Internal Transfer process above.
- When will I know if I have been accepted to the BS in Clinical Laboratory Science Program?
Candidates will be notified of their acceptance beginning June 1st 2008. Admission decisions are made on a space-available basis.
- Will transfer credit be accepted toward degree completion?
Coursework from an accredited college or university can be accepted into Loyola University and used toward completion of the BS in Clinical Laboratory Science. It is best to meet with an Admission Counselor to discuss previous course work. - I am currently a Biology major in the College of Arts & Sciences; when and how do I transfer to the Clinical Laboratory Science program?
Current Biology majors can submit an Internal Transfer Application into the Clinical Laboratory Science program at the beginning of the fourth semester (traditionally the middle of the sophomore year), providing all degree prerequisites are either completed or will be completed by the end of the second year. - When are courses for the BS in Clinical Laboratory Science scheduled?
Clinical Laboratory Science science and math prerequisite courses and University Core Curriculum courses are offered as daytime classes, taught at the Loyola Lake Shore campus on a sixteen-week daytime format. See LOCUS for current course offerings.
University Core Curriculum courses can be taken in either the sixteen-week daytime format, or in an eight-week accelerated format through the School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS). SCPS eight-week courses are taught in the evening at the downtown Water Tower Campus, meeting one night per week from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m Monday through Thursday, or Saturdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. See www.luc.edu/scps/soc or LOCUS for current SCPS offerings, desginated by section 700.
The fourth year Clinical Practicum (CLS 395) is a 40-week, 8-hour day, full-time course of study. The Clinical Practicum is taught at the Medical Center in Maywood, IL.
- Are online classes offered in this program?
Currently, all courses are classroom based. Some course will utilize online environments as a supplement to the entire course experience. Loyola uses Blackboard for its online learning environment.
- What are tuition and fees for the BS in Clinical Laboratory Science program?
Tuition and fee information can be found at www.luc.edu/busar. The BS in Clinical Laboratory Science will carry the same tuition and fee rate as the College of Arts and Sciences.
- What opportunities are there for financial assistance?
Students pursuing the bachelor's degree can qualify for various state and federal financial aid opportunities and student loans. - When will I receive a bill and when is my deposit due?
Students' account summaries are viewable via LOCUS; paper bills are no longer generated. All students receive an e-mail reminder when billing statements available for viewing. The first bill for 2008 Fall semester will be available on July 15th. Information on deposit due dates will be available after admission decisions are made.
