Certificate in Actuarial Science

The certificate program in Actuarial Science is suitable for students preparing for a career in actuarial science, statistics, business or economics. Courses are taught by the faculty of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. All courses are for credit and can be transferred into the major in Statistics once a student is admitted into a degree-seeking program.

   Certificate Requirements
The certificate program in Actuarial Science requires seven courses and two one-credit seminars.
Some requirements may be fulfilled by transfer credit. Please speak to an SCPS academic advisor about prior credits.

The following classes are require of all students:

  • MATH 161 Calculus I (4) and MATH 162 Calculus II (4)                                                    
  • MATH 263 Multivariable Calculus (5)
  • STAT 203 Statistics (3)
  • STAT 304 Probability & Statistics I (3)
  • STAT 305 Probability & Statistics II (3)
  • STAT 396 Actuarial Seminar I (1)
  • STAT 397 Actuarial Seminar II (1)

   Tuition
Certificate students pay $560 per credit hour. Most courses are three credit hours, with the exception of a few math courses.  Please double check the credit hours for each course.
