George and Bernice Cooke Scholarship Foundation for Women

The vision and generosity of Bernice Walters Kane Cooke has made it possible for women returning to college to pursue a bachelor's degree program achieve their dreams and ambitions.

Bernice Walters Kane Cooke, a graduate of Mundelein College, was a strong advocate for women's rights and women's roles in leadership. Through her study and involvement in social work, Bernice became especially dedicated to helping those who could not help themselves and a champion of the underdog.

Through savvy stock market investments, Bernice Cooke was able to develop the capital that made the George and Bernice Cooke Scholarship Foundation for Women possible. The foundation represents George and Bernice's lifelong dream of helping other women achieve their academic and personal goals, just as Bernice Cooke did.

Each Fall and Spring Semester, the George and Bernice Cooke Scholarship Fund grants awards to full time and part time students based on academic qualifications and financial need.

Scholarship Criteria and application process

  • A minimum Loyola University Chicago GPA of 3.0. Students new to Loyola must have a transfer GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in all previous college work, or minimum 3.0 GPA in high school.
  • Each student must submit a completed George and Bernice Cooke Scholarship Foundation for Women application, and a minimum 500-word essay describing goals and aspirations.  For the George and Bernice Cooke Foundation for Women scholarship application and essay guidelines, click here.
  • A completed Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be on file at the time of application. Students must demonstrate unmet financial need based on the results of the FAFSA. For more information and to complete the FAFSA online, click here.
