VOTE – Approval of reinstatement fee. In favor: Unanimous PASSES
With no objections to the suggestion of policy being administered beginning with 2008-2009 academic year
- exists to insert a reinstatement fee for those who haven’t maintained status as a student at the level of their thesis or dissertation
- SSWD
- Exists so that those students with medical & chronic disability/conditions are allowed leniency towards assignments/tests with respect to due dates
- Policy provides guidelines (affecting 14 students at present) for a center that serves more than 230 students in total
- Policy suggests 25% measure of attendance leeway & the same for assignments; providing for case-by-case decisions as necessary
Q. Clinical courses are defined as case-by-case in the proposal, is there a similar clause for lab courses?
A. Nursing, student teaching, etc. are included at-present; lab work could be added. Underlying: does this compromise the major’s credibility, if so, case-by-case would certainly be appropriate when dealing with these courses
Q. Is the responsibility on the teacher or the student to make these accommodations in light of these conditions?
A. Additional help for students from the SSWD are provided; it is a shared understanding and responsibility - Recommended provisions:
1) Clarify role of internships/lab work as case-by-case basis (Patti)
2) Departments have right of refusal for certain coursework (Jack/Alanna)
3) Provide documentation for missed class due to nature of condition to substantiate this policy (Patti)
