A. Wayne Magdziarz opened the meeting and gave an overview of the WTC master plan. A master plan document is appended to these minutes.

B. Jeff Doering asked when it was conceivable that McGuire Hall would again be renovated, and Magdziarz said it would be about 10 years hence, and would likely include building a larger building. Lucien Roy asked what the timeline was for the opening of the gourmet market next to Lewis Towers, and Magdziarz indicated that it would likely be open for business by June 1, although the rental agreement and payments began on April 1. Magdziarz added that the University was looking into reconfiguring the southeast corner of 25 E. Pearson into possible retail space. A more modern and flexible auditorium space than what is currently in that building could be designed in whatever the University constructs on the State Street land.

C. Magdziarz then brie fly outlined plans for the State Street parcel (bordered by Pearson on the south and Chestnut on the north) which the University plans to develop. A Task Force headed by Trustee and alumnus Jack Hartman has been meeting since February to determine the highest and best use of this parcel. This will likely be a phased two-part project, with the Pearson street parcel developed first and the Chestnut street second. Six months will need to be added into the planning to accommodate City of Chicago zoning procedures and processes.

D. Following a discussion of academic space needs on the WTC, Magdziarz indicated that the University has been in on-and-off conversations with organizations including Quigley Seminary and the Railroad Retirement Building managers regarding opportunities for Loyola to lease space. The University will gain some additional classrooms when the Clare opens. The University is also exploring the possibility of building some classrooms on the second floor of a planned building to the west of 25 E. Pearson street. Jon Heintzelman said that there is also need on the WTC for some sort of an alumni welcome center, and that the Clare might be an ideal location for such a center.

E. Committee members had general questions regarding the new School of Communication, and Magdziarz indicated that the Board of Trustees would soon be reviewing the School’s plan and footprint on the WTC.

F. Magdziarz indicated that the final Strategic Planning UPC meeting was scheduled for Monday, June 4 and that agenda items would be forwarded shortly.

G. Magdziarz adj ourned the meeting at 3:30 p.m.
