Ralph Braseth joined the School of Communication in August 2009 as Manager of Student Media.
A member of the University of Mississippi journalism faculty for 18 years, Ralph most recently has been serving as University Spokesperson, Media Coordinator and Executive Assistant to Vice Chancellor for University Affairs at the University of Mississippi. He helped coordinate the Presidential debate held at Ole Miss this past year.
Previous to that he worked for 11 years as Director of Student Media at Ole Miss where he served as publisher/manager of a daily newspaper, a 24/7 FCC-licensed commercial radio station, a daily, live, 30-minute television newscast, a 400-page yearbook, an online news site and various special publications. Ole Miss Student Media established its converged newsroom in 2005. Under his direction, students at Ole Miss gathered more than 100 awards and national recognition.
Ralph is one of the founders of the Center for Innovation in College Media. In May 2009, Braseth completed a Knight Multimedia Fellowship at Cal-Berkeley. Ralph has a background in television news. His work in video documentary garnered him a National Christopher Award and Regional Emmy Award for College Documentary. In 2000, Braseth was named as the Southeast Journalism Conference Outstanding Educator of the Year.
Braseth holds a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration, an M.A. in Journalism from the University of Mississippi, a B.J. in Journalism from University of Missouri and a B.A. in Theater and Dance from Western Washington University.
