Phil Ponce is Anchor and Managing Editor for news, news analysis and public affairs for WTTW-TV Channel 11 in Chicago, and host of the award-winning Chicago Tonight. He brings his expertise to Loyola, teaching broadcast classes.
Ponce has an undergraduate degree in English from Indiana University and a law degree from the University of Michigan. He's been an award-winning journalist for more than 20 years. He first came to work in Chicago in 1982, when he joined WBBM-TV.
Ponce began at WTTW11 in 1992 as a correspondent for Chicago Tonight and as primary substitute for long-time host John Callaway. In 1997, Phil was tapped by Jim Lehrer to serve as national correspondent for the Washington-based NewsHour with Jim Lehrer. Two years later, he returned to Chicago to take over the Chicago Tonight anchor chair.
