Dean's Welcome
Dear Friends:
On behalf of Loyola University Chicago's School of Social Work, I am pleased to welcome current and future students, alumni, donors, and employers as well as our many friends and partners throughout Chicago and beyond.
We are proud to be the first school of social work established at a Jesuit institution of higher learning, offering the Midwest's only university-based doctorate in clinical research, as well as the oldest school of social work at a Catholic university in North America. The connection between the values and mission of the social work profession and our Jesuit, Catholic traditions continues to strengthen our commitment to serve others and ensure excellence in academics.
Loyola's School of Social Work is known for undergraduate and graduate programs that engage and challenge our students in a learning process that provides in-depth integration of direct practice theory, knowledge, and values. We strive to build a strong foundation for the lifelong learning expected of social workers and to meet the individual needs of our students.
To that end, we are excited about our recent developments in international programming. Presently, the school offers opportunities at Loyola’s John Felice Rome Center and the Beijing Center as well as immersion programs to India and video-conference courses with a school of social work in Lithuania. In addition, we offer internships in Mexico and are planning to expand our programs to other parts of the world.
Beginning fall 2008, the school is launching three new institutes—Migration and Global Studies and Practice, Intergerational Studies and Practice, and Advanced Social Work Practice and Innovative Research. Through these institutes, the school plans to further its research, training, and service activities.
Committed to lifelong learning, the school has proactively developed certificate and continuing education program. Many of these offerings can be acquired in the MSW program or as post-graduate work.
Through these Web pages, we want to keep you informed and up to date about the school's programs, activities, and resources. I encourage you to explore this site—and please visit it often—to stay connected with us.
I look forward to seeing you soon on campus.
Regards,
