Loyola's MSW Program at Carthage

Dr. Caleb Kim is the Director of the MSW program and associate professor at the School of Social Work at Loyola University Chicago.  Dr. Kim received his Ph.D. from the School of Social Service Administration at the University of Chicago and has taught and researched at several universities in both Korea and the United States. Prior to this position, he held the positions of chair and director of the BSW program at the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois and worked in the Yonsei University in Korea. Dr. Kim's current research interests are school social work, child welfare, and culturally competent clinical social work practices. 

Craig Perri serves as the Assistant Director of the Loyola MSW Program at Carthage, adjunct professor in the graduate program, and student advisor.  He joined the staff at Carthage in July 2004.  Mr. Perri's experience includes working in community mental health, and in supervising staff and administration of child welfare programs for Metropolitan Family Services, Chicago.  He had worked for Loyola University School of Social Work for five years as a field educator, where he provided training and consultation to Illinois Department of Children and Family Services staff.  Mr. Perri earned an MSW from the University of Illinois-Jane Addams School of Social Work.  He also is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and an approved supervisor for the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.  He has completed the course work and is working on his Ph.D. in Clinical Social Work at Loyola University School of Social Work.

Sandy Peterson serves as the Internship Coordinator for the Loyola MSW Program at Carthage and is an adjunct professor in the graduate program.  She joined the staff at Carthage in September 2004.  Mrs. Peterson's experience includes working extensively in the medical social work field within the hospital setting.  She has been a Senior Social Worker and has worked as a medical social worker with a variety of patients and their medical concerns.  Mrs. Peterson earned a MSW from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.  She is also a Licensed School Social Worker in Wisconsin and holds a Sales and Marketing certification from Cardinal Stritch University.

Valerie Earl serves as the Academic Advisor for the Loyola MSW Program at Carthage and is an adjunct professor in the graduate program.  Ms. Earl began working with the Carthage staff in 2007.  She had been a field instructor for the program prior to beginning her position with the University.  Ms. Earl received her MSW from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She has over 20 years experience working in child welfare, and non profit agencies in the Racine and Kenosha areas.  She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.  Ms. Earl's areas of expertise include treatment of individuals who are victims of sexual, physical and emotional abuse.

Joanne Janiak serves as the Adminstrative Assistant for the Loyola MSW Program at Carthage. She has been with the MSW Program at Carthage since it's inception in 2001.  Joanne helps with the day to day functioning of the office.

Dr. Terri Kilbane joined the faculty of Loyola University in 1997 where she teaches primarily in the research sequence at both the master's and doctoral level with policy as her secondary area. Dr. Kilbane's primary experience in the field had been directing federal and state research projects in the area of child and sexual abuse, independent living, homelessness, quality assurance, organizational leadership, and decision-making in child welfare.  Her research interests are in the areas of child welfare, diversity, substance abuse, domestic violence, elder abuse andprogram evaluation.  She is the faculty liaison to the Multicultural Alumni Resource Committee.

Sarah Hessenauer (Sheridan). Ms. Hessenauer is an adjunct professor with the Loyola MSW Program at Carthage. She is currently completing her PhD in Social Work at Loyola University. She received her Masters in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Ms. Hessenauer also has a Masters in Business Administration. She is a full time academic staff member at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Ms. Hessenauer's focus areas are  mental health and addiction issues. She started in the field as an addiction counselor in an outpatient setting. She has worked as an administrator at Mercy Health System in Janesville, WI and at Rogers Memorial Hospital in Oconomowoc, WI overseeing their behavioral health programs, especially in regards to residential treatment programs. She works limited hours at Crossroads counseling center in Janesville, WI where she works primarily with adolescents and in the area of eating disorders.
